Randomness and Games on Ethereum

Traditional games are held on centralised servers and controlled by gaming companies. These companies can decide what to do at every moment. Moreover, gamers are not the real digital owners of their in-game contents; blockchain can be used to prevent these issues by allowing all the participants to be in the same situation as the centralised server and to be the real owner of their digital assets [3].

The idea of this project is to build poker (other games can be considered) on Ethereum [1] via a smart contract. Furthermore, for a better scalability it will be implemented by means of Layer 2 [2] — a framework built on top of blockchain.

The main challenge consists in producing randomness in a public environment such that it allows to fairly play the game.
